For years now, I have been encouraged by many people to write my story. My response is always the same, "I'll get around to it, someday."

Although I am willing to concede that I have led an interesting life, I really couldn't see that there was anything in it of any great remark. To me, it is just a story about getting out of bed in the morning and showing up to do what needs to be done.  I certainly never imagined that anyone else would be interested in yet another hard luck, rags to riches story.

Then I got THE PHONE CALL...

"Mom? Can you hear me?" I recognized Heather's voice, but why on Earth was she whispering? "I'm in the movie theater, crouched down behind the seats. Oh my God, Mom! You have GOT to see this movie!"

"Just a suggestion, Honey, but why don't you hang up the phone and get back to the movie? I'm sure all those nice people around you in the theater would appreciate it."

"You don't understand, Mom! It's Erin Brokovich! You have GOT to see this movie! This woman has NOTHING on you!"

Being finally convinced that, just maybe, my story had some uplifting, humanitarian worth, I set about jotting down a few thoughts and thinking about writing an outline for a memoir, "Just in case."

I have since read Chris Gardner's The Pursuit of Happyness and Cupcake Brown's A Piece of Cake, both of which have convinced me that living a strangely ordinary life in extraordinary ways has some merit. Well, maybe I do have something to write about.

What I have excerpted here is collection of essays that I wrote in an effort to begin making sense of it all.

I hope you enjoy them!
